Fashion is not Style. And it is time you knew!

I never refer to fashion on Hello it’s Hollie because I don’t dress for fashion I dress for style! Fashion is a fad, say crop tops, see-through jeans from top shop, choker necklaces. Style can’t be defined that easily because everyone has their own. And it is developing with you. I have the same style that I did when I was 14 but then my style was suited to a 14-year-old. Now it suits a 25-year-old.
The best representation of style to me is my Oma (grandmother) she can wear a navy top and navy trousers and look great. The secret you may ask? She knows what suits her and her shape. She knows which neckline is for her and she knows the shape of trousers that suit her best. That’s the trick to style, it is knowing what suits you – taking into account your shape and your age as well as portraying you!
My style is pretty laid back for everyday life and not that much fancier for a night out. I live in jeans. They work for me. I used to suit looser jeans more when I carried more weight and now more and more I am suiting skinnier jeans – and I love skinny jeans so that’s a plus. For me a day to day outfit would consist of jeans, a t-shirt, trainers and then jewellery usually from Cos Stores or similar. This is me. It’s what suits my shape and what suits my personality. I bet most of my friends could pick an outfit for me using this formula. I’m okay with that because that’s what my brain does when I am half asleep. It results back to my formula = my style, which has changed and it will continue to change. I can’t see me in 25 years time in 2042 wearing skinny jeans and t-shirts but maybe I’ll still be wearing jeans or maybe I’ll just have kept my colour palette.

That’s the thing you see, style is a lot more than fashion because style is not an object or a trend. Style is a personality. It is as much you as they way you talk or the gestures you make.
Style can be hard for people to find but everyone has a style, you just have to find it. If you think you are a girl who just buys skinny jeans and crop tops because that’s what Topshop are selling and everyone else is wearing then stop. Find what you like – maybe it is the skinny jeans and crop tops and that’s fine but make it you. It you are wearing that now but stepped into Topshop tomorrow and it was all wide legs and long tops – would you change straight away? If you would take a step back or start to try new things you would find it much easier to find stuff you like and get dressed in the morning.
But hold on. I have had to think about this post for a while because I didn’t know what my style was. The reason is not because I didn’t have a style it was just that it came to me without me thinking. I have spent the last few weeks thinking about what I automatically put on in the morning and I worked it out from there.

So I am going to leave you to find your style. Just know that what I post on here is my style and I want you to be inspired and say “I love that top but I would wear it with these trousers and these shoes” I want you to make it yours.
